Is DetectBuddy free to use?
Yes. DetectBuddy is free to use. You can record finds, organise your detecting memories, create collections, and use the core app experience without needing a subscription. Some advanced collector and presentation features are available with a PRO subscription.
What does DetectBuddy PRO include?
DetectBuddy Pro unlocks the fuller collector experience, including premium collection display tools, curated exhibition features, premium card themes, richer media options, and expanded collection organisation. Pro is available through monthly or annual auto-renewing subscriptions. Open the app to see current pricing, availability, and subscription terms.
How does App Lock work?
App Lock helps protect private detecting information by shielding access to DetectBuddy when protection is enabled. To restore access, you may need to use your App Lock key, so make sure you record this key and keep it somewhere safe. It is also recommended to allow Face ID, where available, so you can unlock the app quickly and securely without relying only on remembering your PIN.
Where is my DetectBuddy data stored?
DetectBuddy is designed around local, private record keeping. Your finds, routes, photos, notes, and collections are stored on your device rather than uploaded to a DetectBuddy account.
Does DetectBuddy track my location, and what happens to location data?
DetectBuddy uses location access only for features you choose to use, such as recording detecting routes and attaching finds or notes to map positions. Location data recorded by DetectBuddy stays in the app’s local storage on your device. It is not uploaded to a DetectBuddy server, linked to a DetectBuddy account, used for advertising, or used to build a tracking profile. If you choose to share or export a route or find, only the information you select leaves the app through the method you choose. You can stop route recording at any time or change DetectBuddy’s location permission in iOS Settings.
Can I record detecting routes?
Yes. DetectBuddy lets you record detecting journeys, keep route history, and connect finds to the places where they were discovered.
Can I add photos and videos to finds?
Yes. You can capture and organise media for your finds so each discovery has its own visual record and story.
Can I organise finds into collections?
Yes. DetectBuddy includes collection tools so you can group finds by theme, trip, location, object type, or your own personal system.
Can I share finds or collection cards?
DetectBuddy supports beautiful collection-style cards and QR-based sharing so your finds can be presented in a more museum-like way.
Can I import or export data?
DetectBuddy supports GPX-based route import and export so you can work with your detecting journeys outside the app where supported.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email support@detectbuddy.com with a short description of the issue or suggestion. Screenshots, device model, iOS version, and steps to reproduce a problem are very helpful.
